Secret Beach - Solos is a supremely mellow CD made up of two parts: musical flesh, and impressions of a Secret Beach. Four atmospheric instrumental tracks make up the first half of this CD. I wrote and recorded them myself: "Secret Beach", "In Another Time",
"Secret Beach Raindrops", and "Moonbeams and Daydreams."
Here, alternate guitar tunings and smooth chord changes combine with multiple guitar lines and bass to produce musical passages that soar and open
and close seamlessly. The melodies are sweet and airy.
Each song is unique and evokes a different scene, a fleeting moment, or musical poetry. The liner notes included with the CD contain basic chord charts, to enable the listener to join the experience of Secret Beach by playing along and experimenting.
The second half of the CD "Between the Dark and the Daylight" is a digital stereo recording of the beach, mixed in a way to take the listener on a very mellow journey. This was done by taking high-end digital equipment on location: to the beach to record the waves, and into a darkened forest after midnight.
Although I have played this track in the car and as background music, I find it most pleasing to listen to it through headphones while relaxing or meditating. The quality of this recording is so good, I feel like I am right there, walking on the beach, then disappearing into a forest ravine, soon surrounded by an entire world of nighttime insects. Finally I find my way back to the beach and head straight into the thundering water for a swim. It is a great dream sequence.
"Between the Dark and the Daylight" is tagged in three parts. Either to be listened to straight through, or you can skip ahead.
This CD is available to you as a limited edition. Each CD I have individually signed and numbered. There are only 500 in the series and they are selling briskly.
Very special thanks go to the wonderful people who helped with the production: at Rax Trax Recording in Chicago, Mike Casey remixed the tracks; the CD was mastered by Dan Stout at Colossal Mastering. I would also like to thank guitarist Paul Kogut for helping me complete the chord notations which appear in the CD booklet. I hope you enjoy Solos and I hope that it fills your imagination with impressions of moments on the Secret Beach.
